West Papua Human Rights Center
The West Papua Human Rights Center (WPHRC) is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C.,
dedicated to raising awareness of the ongoing human rights situation in West Papua. Due to restricted
access and limitations on press freedom, the region remains largely closed to independent observers,
and information is often controlled or filtered. As a result, many people around the world are unaware
of the realities on the ground.
Through the use of digital platforms and direct communication with local communities, the Center
works to share credible information and amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard. By increasing
global awareness, WPHRC seeks to foster informed dialogue and greater international attention to the
situation in West Papua.

Mission and Goals

The mission of the West Papua Human Rights Center is to document and highlight human rights
conditions in West Papua and to advocate for justice, accountability, and respect for fundamental
freedoms. The organization is committed to engaging a global audience, encouraging individuals and
institutions to support the protection of human rights and to stand in solidarity with affected
communities.

Education and Outreach

Education is central to the Center’s work. WPHRC aims to inform audiences across the United States and
internationally through educational programs, digital content, and community engagement. By sharing
accurate and accessible information, the organization seeks to deepen understanding of the situation in
West Papua.
Given the challenges faced by journalists and observers in accessing the region, it is especially important
to provide reliable accounts and perspectives from those directly affected. Through these efforts, the
Center supports greater awareness, civic engagement, and dialogue around issues of human rights and
self-determination.

Core Work and Vision

The West Papua Human Rights Center is dedicated to the protection, promotion, and advancement of
human rights for all people in West Papua. Its core activities include documenting human rights
conditions, supporting victims of abuse through legal and humanitarian assistance, and advocating for
accountability and the rule of law.
Through research, monitoring, and reporting, the Center ensures that the experiences of affected
communities are recognized at local, regional, and international levels. It also works to strengthen
community capacity by promoting human rights education, empowering Indigenous Papuan
communities, and supporting peaceful civic participation.

The organization collaborates with civil society groups, legal institutions, and international human rights
bodies to promote transparency, protect civil liberties, and encourage policies grounded in dignity,
equality, and justice.
Ultimately, WPHRC envisions a future in which human rights are fully respected and upheld in West
Papua, fostering peace, accountability, and sustainable development for all.
